Forcing a document on an App in the Dock

... just hold Command-Option, then drag the document’s icon to the Word icon in the Dock, and you can force it to try to open that document.

Just another almost intiutive hint from Apple Pro.

What explains fast start-up and booting time of Intel Macintosh computers running Mac OS X?

I think I really want to figure that one out... 27-30 seconds restart time blows me away (yes, blame me for freaking seconds measuring of computer startup speeds, I don't mind haha ;)

Apple Downloads > Mac OS X > E-mail & Chat

Hi, sorry for silence. I have been busy with my new iMac. I just found out the Letterbox for Mail.app is available on Apple.com under Mac OS X Downloads. Well done, as usual!

PS: the latest Intel-based iMac blows me away.

Apple Discussions forum on iPhone & more

Even 58 year-old father of a good friend of mine wrote like 2 days after San Francisco Mac World happened, that he NEEDS iPhone NOW and can't wait for it to come out. Ground breaking OS X running REAL mobile device with iPod video, Safari browser, 2.0 mega pixel camera is by default Top 5 product of the year 2007, I propose.

Well, Apple has been heavily working on their website for some time now and very effectively. They launched iPhone on Discussions forum. What a smart move. I like it when such big firms do so much for their corporate webpage. Another offtopic example would be Skype.com, where things are changing and getting better all the time.

Apple.com has been expanding a lot recently, did everybody see the Education pages and the Pro section lately? Mac@work.

iPhone in USA, coming to Europe soon

The most talked about phone in the World? Yes, the iPhone has arrived. It has hit us and blown us away. Thousands and THOUSANDS of people are going to buy this. Congrats to all cingular clients and USA folks, who will be using this technology starting June.

What do you think about iPhone?
The video is here: watch iPhone introduction by Steve Jobs at San Francisco 2007 MacWorld.

PS: sorry that I haven't been posting lately, I am very busy working + university.

Hehe, a good friend of mine just said: "Hey, let's buy a six-pack of those phones and order now, can't wait till they make it to Europe man!"

Forthcoming Mac OS X screen snapshots

One of the most essential features for most users in the forthcoming Mac OS X version 10.5 is the Quick Look:

Quick Look allows media to be viewed in the Finder without launching Preview. It can be used to look at a single item or multiple items. With multiple items, a slide show or index sheet can be viewed.

NY Times video: Vista versus OS X

You know, if it' wasn't NY Times Online I would have mistaken that clip for some Comedy Central stuff (check out the funny font they are using). This is hilarious: NY Times video about Vista not copying Mac

screenshot of NY Times Online e-mail with that video URL
I hope somebody uploads it to YouTube soon in order to embed in this post :)

Have a nice ("windows-free"*) weekend!

* well, sadly-technically my neighbour from Barcelona is supposed to install WindowsXP all over again because it failed to boot yesterday (after we connected my DVI 20" monitor. Shocking :D XP feature, right?) I admit, I laughed like a bastard after we tried 5-6 different solutionos to the DVI problem.

iTunes: Burning Multiple Times to the Same CD

Well another thing that lots of people haven't noticed: iTunes can burn multi-session CDs (AND Data CDs ;) Enjoy!

PS: www.apple.com really is one of the best designed websites on this planet … everybody can learn from it, even us (I make websites), the designers. Very useful I am sure.

OS X dvd helps to 'Repair disk'

Hi, I was slightly shocked to hear that my best pal, who has been using mac longer than me, had no idea that one of the most logical things to do when mac won't boot is to use the OS X DVD at startup. He recovered disk error in 10 minutes thanks to Disk Utility's "Repair Disk" feature avaialble only when booted from DVD (normally it allows to repair permissions there and 'repair disk' is unavailable when not booted from DVD).

The Swedish Quality: Cocktail

Hi, this week I would like to share my joy about a nice feature in Cocktail: "Verbose" Startup mode. I totally overlooed this option before. So I am glad to actually read what my machine is doing from an "old-school black screen" exactly at startup.

Discover Hard Disk Drive Failiure with SMARTReporter before it hits you hard

Hard disk failiure is, sadly, common among laptops. They say everything that's moving gets worn out – so do iBooks, MacBooks, MacBook Pros etc. In the recent times disk failiure has been happening to many of my friend's machines, struck by the disaster. It is not fatal if you have a backup disk, but can you imagine a disappointment of losing 40gb iTunes Library, iPhoto and all last 2 weeks work?

Well I discovered SMARTReporter this week and installed it today. I hope it will save me lots of stress in the future. It can notify me before the real hard disk failiure actually happens so I would have time to save data.

SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of ATA hard-drive failures before they actually happen! It does so by periodically polling the S.M.A.R.T.-status of your hard-drives. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a technology built into most modern hard-drives that acts as an "early warning system" for pending drive problems. Because SMARTReporter relies on the S.M.A.R.T. implementation of Mac OS X, it only supports ATA or S-ATA hard-drives, if you want S.M.A.R.T. support for your FireWire hard-drive, send feedback to Apple.

Enjoy this small utility and configure it for e-mail notifications. Play safe and do backups! :)

PS: I got lucky last Christmas because Apple Warranty agreed to exchange my Logic Board and Hard Disk 1 day before warranty deadline, hey ;)
